Oh My God, I'm a Published Writer

Well, it had to happen eventually. The Web had everything to do with it; I entered a writing contest at Subsim.com, using a short story that I developed on their forum. It's fan-fiction really, based on a WWII German U-boat simulator, Silent Hunter III. That is, the action scenes followed the missions as I played them on my computer. Well, they liked it, so my story's going to be included in the next Submarine Almanac, and I get a free copy of the book, Woo-Hoo!

Everybody's gotta start somewhere. Now I've decided to make a full-length novel using the same protagonist, a U-boat skipper who begins to realize something's terribly wrong with his country. I'm not remotely concerned with how marketable it is, I just want to write it my way. I'm keeping my day job. And if Hollywood wants to chase me with big sacks of cash, fine. I ain't chasing them.

About emigrating to another country, it could still happen. I'm trying to unload most of my bulky possessions and get back the mobility I had in college. Should've done this years ago -- most of my stuff isn't worth what I spent on storage rent. As the Italians say, Allora...

To be honest I've never actually read a copy of Subsim Almanac, but last year's is available through Amazon. My story will be in the 2008 edition, to be sold via Subsim.com's online store (maybe later at Amazon).

Re the other contributors, I don't know everyone's credentials, but some very knowledgeable people do hang out at the Forum, that much is certain.

Danke for your interest!
